In this article, we will discuss some typical fall/winter foods that should not be missing from your table if you want to take care of your liver and overall well-being. Here are 7 fall foods for your liver detox!

Previously, we talked about how to know if a liver cleanse is necessary and shared tools on how to carry it out. We explained the three phases of the liver detox and finally the best time to do it.

For this reason, it is advisable to eat seasonal fruits and vegetables.

You probably know the benefits of artichokes, very typical of this time of year here in Spain, but today I have decided to include other fruits and vegetables that you might know less about for their detoxifying qualities.

Nonetheless, for your delight, I will also share a very detoxifying artichoke recipe that will make you lick your fingers!

Pomegranate

An extraordinary fruit both for its beauty and color and for its qualities. It’s very typical to see it as decoration on our holiday dishes. It´s rich in polyphenols, flavonoids, and anthocyanins. It helps maintain an alkaline environment and supports a healthy liver. Vontains vitamins such as C, A, and B, and alkaline minerals like potassium, magnesium, calcium, manganese, iron, and phosphorus. It improves blood circulation, blood pressure, cholesterol, and helps prevent memory loss. It is diuretic, aids digestion, and fights  againts constipation. Pomegranate is considered an aphrodisiac fruit that also promotes fertility.

So, how can you not have it?

They have endless health benefits and are powerful liver detoxifiers. Apples contain malic acid, which helps soften gallstones, tartaric acid, B vitamins (B1, B2, B6) that support liver cleansing and are hepatoprotective, vitamin C, minerals like phosphorus, potassium, and calcium. They have carotenoids, flavonoids, polyphenols, bioactive compounds, and many antioxidants that help prevent cellular oxidative damage. Rich in soluble fiber, pectin, a prebiotic with a low glycemic index that improves constipation. Help with fat digestion, protecting against cardiovascular diseases.

Persimmon (Kaki)

This fruit, originally from China and Japan, is truly delicious. It has an exquisite sweet taste, ideal for desserts or breakfasts. This fruit, rich in antioxidants, fights against free radicals, inflammation, and has a detoxifying and diuretic effect. It is ideal to take care of your liver and your digestive system in general.

Another violet fall vegetable that belongs to the cabbage family. Extraordinarily purifying and diuretic thanks to its content in sulfur, potassium, and vitamins B2 and B6. It is very rich in antioxidants, vitamins C, K, B6, B2, and A. It also contains minerals like calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, copper, zinc, and iron, making it a very alkalizing vegetable.

Celery

We all know the benefits of this extraordinary vegetable, its good nutritional and purifying qualities. Thanks to its characteristic bitter taste, it has digestive qualities, being a good liver/biliary regulator that promotes bowel movements and improves liver function. It contains folic acid, vitamins A, E, and C. It improves the skin and mucous membranes. And lastly, endive is a very alkalizing vegetable due to its mineral content, such as potassium, calcium, magnesium, iodine, and phosphorus.

 

Fall has seasonal foods rich in vitamins and full of nutrients, perfect to fight against  fatigue and lack of energy that often affects us during this season. Include these 7 foods in your diet to  Detox your liver!
