Today, we are going to talk about what is detoxification and what isn’t a detox.
What does Detox really mean?
Also referred as “cleansing,” detoxification is an ancient technique practiced since ancient Greece (Hippocrates), ancient Egypt, India (Ayurveda), Tibetan and Chinese cultures, the Middle Ages, and various other ancient and indigenous civilizations.
It is obvious then that different cleansing procedures were part of an individual’s overall health.
Nowadays, we increasingly understand the importance in preserving our health and vitality in order to prevent diseases and premature aging, especially given the prevalence of toxins in our environment due to our modern world and lifestyle. These toxins can be found in:
- The air, water, and food.
- Heavy metals in the air, pesticides and herbicides, etc.
- Processed foods (eating to much, alcohol, smoking, etc.)
- Household chemicals (cleaning products)
- Perfumes, deodorants, toothpaste, hair dyes, etc.
- Endocrine disruptors found in plastics, perfumes, and pesticides
- Cookware like Teflon pans, aluminum, etc.
- Synthetic fabric clothing
Methods to detoxify
There are various methods to detoxify, but prevention is crucial. It is recomended to Detox your body at least twice per year an it can be achieved through:
- An alkaline plant-based diet, with lots of vegetables and fruits, juices and smoothies.
- Drinking alkaline water, essential for liver, kidneys and bladder cleansing.
- Taking the correct amount of alkaline minerals like Phour Salts to keep acidity and toxins at bay.
- Fasting and intermittent fasting.
Detox with Alkaline Care
And It is advisable to cleanse the body’s main filters, organs, at least twice a year or when needed:
- Cleanse your colon (intestines) with colonic irrigationats at least twice per year or taking Phlush, a mild osmotic laxative with vitamins and amino acids that cleanses the colon gently while regenerating the digestive mucosa aswell.
- Cleanse your liver, the body’s greatests laboratory and filter. All the blood of the body is filtered and cleansed by the liver every 3 minutes. For this, we have Hephatic Care.
- Cleanse the kidneys using medicinal herbs and water with Puriphy.
- Detoxify blood and lymph with liquid chlorophyll.
Common Misconceptions About Detox.
Now that we’ve established the basics, let’s clarify some misconceptions and myths about detox, what is it and what´s not, and what false beliefs surround it:
- It’s just a passing healthy trend. Studying the history of medicine reveals us that this is not the case.
- It’s dangerous and can make you sick (it’s precisely the opposite).
- Only certain people can do it. At first, except for some people (eating disorders), everyone can benefit from detoxification.
- If you don’t eat during some time (fasting), you can die. In fact, we can fast for up to 40 days.
- It’s unhealthy and “unnatural” (animals also practice it).
- The body detoxifies itself without help. Perhaps this would be true if we lived in an ideal world without pollution, ate very healthily, and lived stress-free.
It’s important to note that fasting, for example, only with protein-based sachets containing artificial flavorings and colorings is not a healthy way to detoxify yourself. Similarly, practicing intermittent fasting and then consuming lots of acid-forming foods rich in sugars, trans fats, and red meat during your meal hours isn´t advisable either.
