The power of superfoods

Nowadays there is more and more talk about the power of superfoods and how they can help us in our daily lives.

What is a superfood and why is it interesting to incorporate it?

They are very complete foods, rich in nutrients and bioactive compounds of high nutritional and biological value. Superfoods are true concentrates of vitamins, antioxidants, minerals, proteins, fiber and beta glucans. They have an anti-aging effect as they help fight free radicals and boost immunity, helping to prevent degenerative diseases. They are foods that also contain high levels of phytonutrients, beta carotenes, vitamins A, C and E, as well as Omega 3 fatty acids.

Many of these super foods are part of the daily diet in other countries and now we can also enjoy them as they improve and complete our diet. In this article I will mention three basic superfoods to keep in mind.

Reishi (Ganoderma Lucidum)

Reishi is the king of mushrooms, known as the “mushroom of immortality or the medicine of kings.” It was famous in ancient Chinese and Japanese medicine for stimulating the immune system, fighting cancerous processes, preventing cardiovascular diseases, calming anxiety and relieving allergies and inflammation, among others. It is advisable to take it together with vitamin C for greater absorption. You can take it mixed with natural juice, water, coffee or tea and if you take it half an hour before doing sports you will absorb it better.

Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera)

Ashwagandha is a wonderful root that has both sedative and invigorating properties. It is also known as Indian ginseng. This adaptogenic plant is highly appreciated in Indian Ayurveda medicine since it is considered one of the best rejuvenating plants: it generates vitality and strengthens the entire body physically and mentally. It is ideal for combating stress and helping to regenerate the adrenal glands. In addition to providing vitality and strength, ashwagandha helps eliminate anxiety and restlessness. It is ideal for people with a busy life, athletes and for those who suffer from anxiety and insomnia. You can mix it with juices, smoothies, water, tea or coffee.

Vegan Kefir Powder

Vegan kefir powder is obtained from fermented soy milk and is very rich in prebiotic bacteria and yeast. Kefir promotes intestinal health and boosts immunity. With this recipe, we also add probiotics, prebiotics and post-biotics, come on, a very complete delight:

Ingredients:

  • 250 ml Vegetable milk (coconut, oats, almonds, soy, hazelnuts, etc.)
  • 4 tablespoons of organic oats.
  • 1 banana cut.
  • 1 handful of berries (blueberries and raspberries).
  • 1 handful of dried fruits (walnuts and almonds)
  • 1 Medjoul date cut into pieces.
  • Sweeten with honey or date syrup.
  • 1 teaspoon Kefir powder.

Preparation:

  • Heat the milk you have chosen and when it is about to boil, lower it to medium heat and add the 4 tablespoons of oats.
  • Stir it and cover it, let it cook for 10 minutes.
  • The texture should be soft like porridge.
  • Transfer it to a bowl and when it has cooled a little add all the fruit and kefir.
  • You can sweeten it with a little honey or date syrup, and sprinkle a little cinnamon or chocolate powder on top.
