10 Keys to Strengthen Your Immune System Against COVID-19

We are living in turbulent times, feeling threatened by a virus we had never encountered before, making us suddenly feel more vulnerable. In this article, we want to contribute in these challenging moments. Discover the 10 Keys to Strengthen Your Immune System Against COVID-19!

There are many positive actions we can take to boost our immune system and we want to share them with you in this article. Here is a list of 10 measures you can take to improve and enhance your immune system.

10 Keys to Strengthen Your Immune System Against COVID-19

Eat as Healthy as You Can

Now is the most important time to pay attention to your diet. Remember, in a more alkaline and oxygen-rich environment our cells are healthier and our immune system is stronger. Reduce (or avoid) processed foods, sugars, refined White flours, soft drinks, dairy products, red meats, alcohol, and tobacco. You can download a food guide from this post to help you during this time.

Choose whole, fresh, nutrient-rich foods, including fresh fruits and vegetables. Make leafy greens a priority, as they are rich in chlorophyll, which oxygenates the body and helps eliminate toxins and heavy metals. Opt for legumes and plant-based proteins (ideally organic), though these may be harder to find during challenging times. On Alkaline Care’s social media, I’ve shared a video explaining how to wash vegetables with alkaline water to remove potential viruses.

Eat lightly; overeating burdens the body and compromises the immune system.

If you’re experienced with it, try intermittent fasting. It not only boosts your immunity but also aids in eliminating toxins from the body. I’ll explain this in more detail in an upcoming post.

Drink Plenty of Water

Water hydrates you and helps flush toxins from the body. Under the current circumstances, we recommend drinking warm or hot water during the day, as it hydrates and keeps the body warm, helping prevent chills.

Drink plenty of alkaline water as it acts as a powerful antibacterial and antifungal agent in the body, like an internal disinfectant, making it harder for pathogens to thrive. Avoid tap water, as it contains heavy metals and chlorine, which destroys gut flora critical to immune system maintenance.

Drink Herbal Teas

Drink herbal teas throughout the day. Recommended options include thyme, chamomile, eucalyptus, rosemary, and ginger. Add a teaspoon of raw, organic honey. Avoid industrial honey, which is mostly sugar.

Remineralize Your Body

Minerals like magnesium, potassium, and calcium are powerful allies for the nervous system. In these stressful times, replenishing minerals is essential.

Modern society, despite its advancements, often leaves people deficient in minerals—especially magnesium and potassium. Intensive agriculture and soil overuse have stripped the earth of essential minerals like magnesium, which is fundamental for both physical and emotional health. Learn more in our article on Magnesium and Its Three Allies. For this take Phour Salts a miraculous mineral compound.

Include Immune-Boosting Foods

Incorporate foods that specifically enhance immunity and fight against certain bacteria and viruses, such as garlic, onion, lemon, ginger, turmeric, and mushrooms.

Get enough Sunlight

Even if you’re at home take advantage of sunlight through a window or on your balcony if you have one. Sun exposure helps synthesize vitamin D. You can also take a vitamin D3 supplement, one of the greatest immune-boosting vitamins. Known as the “sunshine vitamin,” it is indispensable for metabolic functions. Did you know all your cells have receptors for this vitamin?

Take Vitamins and Supplements

Other vitamins and supplements are crucial during this time, as they enhance the immune system. For example:

  • Zinc
  • Vitamin C
  • Vitamin A, either synthetic or in the form of beta-carotene, which strengthens mucous membranes, especially in the respiratory system.
  • Medicinal mushrooms like reishi and maitake, which are immune-boosting.
  • Herbs like echinacea, astragalus and cat’s claw, which act as immunomodulators, helping balance the immune system.
  • Artemisia annua, a powerful anti-inflammatory that fights viruses and bacteria very effectively.

Pay Attention to Your Breathing

You can reduce anxiety, fear and inner agitation through breathing. Breathe deeply and rhythmically (taking the same time to inhale and exhale) to calm your mind. Breathing is connected to our emotions, so conscious breathing is crucial when we feel overwhelmed. There are many different techniques out there.

Fear suppresses the immune system and anxiety diminishes mental clarity and creativity when facing challenges.

Stay Physically Active

During quarantine, staying at home reduces physical mobility, which affects blood circulation, oxygenation, muscles and increases physical tension from collective stress. On our Facebook and Instagram pages, you’ll find short tutorials (to be published weekly) on simple exercises to do in limited spaces.

Use Music to Shift Your Emotional State

Listen to relaxing music, uplifting melodies or tunes that make you want to dance. Find humor and laughter despite difficulties, as laughter generates energy that strengthens the immune system.

If you’re with your family, take this time to bond and enjoy each other’s company. If you’re alone, use this opportunity to connect with yourself.

Lastly, let us mention the concept of epigenetics—the influence of the environment on gene expression. Fascinating studies (e.g., Dr. Bruce Lipton’s The Biology of Belief) suggest we can activate health-promoting genes or deactivate disease-associated ones through our environment, lifestyle, and even our thoughts.

Yes, you heard it right! What you think and feel has a direct impact on your health and, consequently, your immune system.
