SIBO and Alkalinity

Nowadays, we hear a lot about Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO), a condition that primarily affects the digestive system (especially women) leading to various digestive issues such as nausea, bloating, Irritable Bowel Syndrome and and all sorts of digestive problems.

In this article, we’ll delve into what is SIBO and how we can address it through alkalinity. However, before we proceed, I strongly recommend consulting a healthcare professional if necessary.

What is SIBO?

As mentioned earlier, SIBO is a condition that affects the digestive system. It originates from certain bacteria that belong to the large intestine that migrate to the small intestine where they ferment food, produce bloating and various stomach issues.

When there are too many bacteria in the small intestine, they end up competing for food, causing poor absorption and nutritional deficits.

According to the American Gastroenterological Association, the most common symptoms include:

  • Brain fog.
  • Abdominal pain.
  • Bloating/gas/flatulence.
  • Abdominal cramps.
  • Weight loss (malnutrition).

However, it’s essential to emphasize that while many people experience these symptoms, it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s SIBO. To confirm it, you must undergo a medical test called the “breath test.”

What causes this imbalance in the intestinal microbiota

  • Acid-forming diets rich in carbohydrates, sugar, dairy, and gluten.
  • Certain medications that disrupt gut microbiome.
  • Chronic constipation.
  • Autoimmune diseases like Crohn’s.
  • Stress, anxiety, and depression.
  • pH imbalance due to all of the above.

Alkaline diet to prevent and recover our health

  • Start with an alkaline diet low in FODMAPs (fermentable oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides, and polyols). For this it’s advisable to follow the guidance of a healthcare professional.
  • Limit the intake of fermentable carbohydrates and polyols which ferment and cause gas and bloating, such as beans and lentils, and some vegetables such as artichokes, asparagus, onions and garlik.
  • Avoid acid-forming foods like dairy (milk), processed meats, sugar, high-fructose fruits, refined and whole grains, gluten, wheat-based products such as cereals, bread and crackers, alcohol, and coffee, as they not only cause inflammation but also disrupt your gut pH.

When the pH is balanced there can be no bacterial overgrowth.

What does the FODMAPs diet consist of?

As the FODMAPs diet is a very strict one it´s only temporary and it consists of two phases:

  1. First, eliminate gluten and high-FODMAP foods. Consult a healthcare professional for guidance.
  2. Second, reintroduce foods based on individual tolerance.
  • You can consume low-fructose fruits and alkaline vegetables such as spinach, carrots, zucchini, tomatoes, green beans, olive oil, and chia seeds in moderation.
  • Avoid dairy, whole grains, gluten, and sugar.
  • Drink plenty of alkaline water as water is essential for  good gut health.
  • If necessary, include digestive enzymes to help digest carbohydrates and fats.

How to prevent SIBO

It’s also highly recommended to cleanse your colon periodically, as a clean colon keeps certain bacteria in check and prevents inflammation.

For this purpose, you can take Phlush, a gentle natural osmotic laxative that cleans the entire digestive tract, eliminating accumulated mucus and feces while maintaining optimal pH.

Oregano oil capsules contain aromatic phenols with broad-spectrum bactericidal properties, which can be very helpful in cases of SIBO.

Also, liquid chlorophyll is highly effective in cases of SIBO and other digestive imbalances as it delivers oxigen to all the tissues of the body. It not only acts as a powerful natural alkalizer but also has anti-inflammatory properties, regenerates gastric mucosa, promotes healing, and keeps unwanted bacteria at bay. Regular consumption of chlorophyll can lead to a healthy intestinal microbiome.

And If you also take Phour Salts on a regular basis you’ll notice significant improvements. When alkaline mineral salts rich in magnesium and potassium are consumed regularly, the digestive system normalizes, the production of hydrochloric acid is balanced, and the beneficial bacteria thrive in the colon for longer.

If you are taking some type of probiotic and combine it with Phour Salts, the beneficial effect will be greatly enhanced!
