What is premenstrual syndrome?

Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) is a set of recurring symptoms that occur between ovulation and your period. These signs can be physical – hormonal and metabolic – or psychological and emotional. The majority of women, approximately 90%, report feeling some premenstrual symptoms. But, what is premenstrual syndrome?

What symptoms does it cause?

Between seven and ten days before menstruation, the woman presents symptoms of nervousness, greater emotional sensitivity, symptoms of anxiety or depression or even general discomfort. The most frequent are:

What causes premenstrual syndrome?

Although it is not known for certain, the most common causes of painful menstruations are usually chemical changes in the brain, variations in serotonin, known as the happiness hormone, a neurotransmitter that is 95% generated in the intestine. Hormonal imbalances and stress also play a role.

If you regularly suffer from premenstrual syndrome, we tell you what you can do to improve the symptoms:

Feeding

  • It is best for us to follow an alkaline diet as it helps us reduce inflammation and balance our hormones.
  • Include bananas, raw beets, nuts, green leafy vegetables, whole oats and fish in your diet.
  • Drink between 5 and 8 glasses of alkaline water that you can get with Puriphy.

The lifestyle that benefits you

  • Play any sport you like or just walk.
  • Practice yoga and meditation to lower cortisol and activate the parasympathetic system. You promote emotional and hormonal balance.
  • Learn to manage stress. Negative emotions are precursors to all diseases and hormonal imbalances, they activate the sympathetic system, raise cortisol and lower dopamine and serotonin.
  • Sleep the necessary hours.
  • Do some acupuncture sessions, it is very effective against pain, inflammation and helps balance menstruation and hormones.
  • Consult a homeopath, since homeopathy is also very helpful with PMS and other female ailments.
  • Do a liver cleanse at least twice a year to avoid any dysfunction in the female organs.

Supplements for premenstrual syndrome

  • Omega 3 Essential Oil (fish, krill, algae or flax). Anti-inflammatory, regulates cholesterol and calcium. Reduces the intensity of dysmenorrhea, influences fertility and improves mood.
  • Omega 6 (evening primrose and/or borage) is very effective in relieving symptoms of premenstrual syndrome.
  • Magnesium, Vitamin B6 and Zinc. They are the famous triad for women, as together they relieve and help prevent menstrual pain, fluid retention and headaches. Vitamin B6 increases serotonin and nervous system levels. Zinc promotes hormonal balance.
  • Ashwagandha. An adaptogen that lowers inflammation at the brain level and combats stress.
  • Dong Quai. A hormonal regulator, natural source of phyto-estrogens. Ideal to compensate for the lack of estrogen in women during the pre- and post-menopause period. It has the ability to regulate the presence of female hormones in the body in the sense that it stops them if they are in excess or activates them when there is a deficiency. It has a notable analgesic, anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic effect.
  • Liquid chlorophyll. Helps improve women’s disorders such as premenstrual syndrome and during menopause. It has an extraordinary anti-inflammatory effect and helps regulate women’s symptoms.

The type of symptoms varies from one woman to another and from one cycle to another, and also in intensity: they can range from mild to disabling, as is the case in women who suffer from Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder. By following these guidelines, you can relieve premenstrual symptoms and menstrual pain.
